Our projects see us immerse ourselves in our client's businesses while we dive into the target users (people!) of the experience we're building and what they are likely to be trying to achieve when they get there. Due to our diverse client base, design briefs vary significantly from project to project at Digital Butter.
We'll create User Personas to represent real humans that have real needs. We then design User Journeys that aim to solve the problems that will bring them to the website or app we're building.
Once high-level journeys are defined, we'll dive into UX design - building mobile-first wireframes for all of the interfaces we will be building. We link these together into an interactive prototype (using Figma) so that we can validate our ideas with our clients and iterate towards page structures and navigation systems that will deliver a great user experience.
For UI design, we're working in Figma, though for highly customised artwork, or design/brand elements, we'll jump into Adobe's Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator) when we need to.
Our interface design work is always targeting clear human-centric objectives. Whether it's helping web or app users find important information, learn about services or purchase products, we're passionate about helping connect people with businesses.
Strategy, Budgeting & Estimations
- Drive the agencies design practice - with a focus on processes & tools that we use to deliver an exceptional design product.
- Ensure fully developed websites (by our engineering team) meet design standards.
- Work directly with the Strategy leads to help create design strategies & approaches for new business & existing clients.
- Based on a client brief, estimate the effort and resources required to fulfil the design scope.
- Be the guardian of the Digital Butter brand - and help to produce assets for our marketing and business efforts.
UX/UI Design - Planning & Delivery
- With the Strategy Leads, collaborate in UX workshops to help solve identified user problems based on a client brief.
- Use Figma (or similar design tools) for custom wireframes based on an outlined sitemap and user journey flow.
- Review client brand guidelines and prepare mood boards, colour palettes, fonts and web design style and direction.
- Use Figma (or similar design tools) for custom UI designs (we rarely use templates/themes) for both new projects and existing client briefs - for e-commerce platforms and websites.
- Execute simple website projects fully (design to launch) in Webflow.
Collaboration & Client Engagement
- Participate in discovery sessions with clients that aim to understand their brand and positioning.
- Where relevant, and with the Strategy Leads, present your wireframes and UI designs with clients.
- Join meetings with clients to go through feedback on wireframes and designs.

- Proven design skills with a solid wireframe and UI design portfolio for complex websites and e-commerce platforms.
- Deep, hands-on expertise with:
- Design tools like Figma (or sketch), as well as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
- Knowledge and experience with e-commerce: designing with frameworks in mind - Shopify, Craft Commerce
- Documenting and annotating designs for engineers and developers
- Reviewing websites for design aesthetics and integrity vs original design.
